How It’s Treated
At this moment in time, there is no existing vaccine or specific treatment for COVID-19. Only symptoms are treated. Severe cases might need oxygen therapy or mechanical ventilation.
Who Is Most At Risk
Elderly and those with underlying medical conditions (like high blood pressure, heart disease, lung disease, cancer, or diabetes). But everyone should take the correct precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19.
How It Spreads
The virus spreads from person to person when:
- Infected people are in close contact with others (within about 2 meters / 6 feet).
- An infected person produces small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when someone coughs or exhales.
- Touching a contaminated surface or object and then touching your eyes, mouth, or nose.
Maintain Physical Distancing
Maintain at least 2 metres (6 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain the virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease. There’s also the risk of surface contamination, hence personal hygiene is extremely important.
Where advised, stay home and avoid gathering in groups or with people who may be more vulnerable such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
Know The Symptoms
If you have:
- Fever
- Cough
- Difficulty breathing
Call your Doctor and follow the directions of your local health authority.
Make A Difference During COVID-19
You may have heard them, but they are worth repeating:
- Keep your hands clean and don’t touch your face.
- Keep your distance.
- Keep in touch with your neighbours, and be kind.
- Monitor your symptoms and seek medical attention if you think you might be sick.
- And, if you can do more, donate to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
How To Prevent The Spread Of COVID-19
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Maintain social distancing.
- Stay home. If you feel unwell, seek medical attention and call in advance.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Practice respiratory hygiene.
- Stay informed.
